Description

OralVive™ a breakthrough Hyaluronic Acid in Poloxamer gel applied topically to teeth & gums supporting oral tissue and bone regeneration in animals.

How does it work

Hyaluronic acid "sticks" to soft tissue because, as a powerful humectant, it attracts and binds water to itself and the skin's cells, locking in moisture to hydrate, plump, and strengthen the skin's natural barrier. This ability to hold 1,000 times its weight in water makes it an excellent hydrator.

Poloxamer is liquid at cold temperatures (2–8°C), making it easy to apply, and forms a gel at body temperature (36–37°C), helping it stay comfortably in place.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring biomaterial that has been proven safe and effective in both humans and dogs for a variety of indications, including dentistry.

CANINE STUDIES DEMONSTRATE STATISTICAL IMPROVEMENT ACROSS A RANGE OF ENDPOINTS - AFTER JUST A SINGLE APPLICATION of HA.

Decreased

  • Gingival recession
  • Probing pocket depth
  • Epithelial down growth
  • Pain post periodontal therapy and tooth extraction
  • Bleeding on probing

Increased

  • Bone formation
  • Cementum formation
  • Connective tissue attachment
  • Ligament attachment
  • Pocket filling post extraction
  • Rate of wound healing

OralVive - is a 0.8% hyaluronic acid gel formulation (pH 6.5 – 7.5) supplied as 3ml of gel in a 3ml prefilled capped luer-lock syringe with 4 separate applicator tips per pack allowing the treatment of 4 animals. Extra tips can be purchased with the code: SLKTIP1

FAQ’s for OralVive™ - Physical Barrier Gel for Topical applications to teeth and gums

1. What is OralVive™?

OralVive™ is a veterinary dental gel formulated with hyaluronic acid (HA) and Poloxymer gel designed to support oral tissue healing, reduce inflammation, and enhance periodontal health in companion animals. Poloxamer provides the smart gel behavior, while HA provides adhesion, hydration, and biological interaction. Together, they form an ideal mucoadhesive hydrogel system that improves both retention and absorption.

2. What is Hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan present in connective, epithelial, and neural tissues. In the oral cavity, it contributes to extracellular matrix integrity, tissue hydration, and cellular signalling processes critical for wound healing and angiogenesis.

3. What is Poloxamer gel?

Poloxamer gel is a water-based solution of PEO–PPO–PEO triblock copolymers that forms a gel when warmed to body temperature. Its unique structure gives it biocompatibility, reversibility, and versatility for medical and veterinary applications.

4. How is HA used in veterinary dentistry?

In veterinary dentistry, HA is applied to promote healing and reduce inflammation in oral tissues. It can be used:

  • After dental cleanings or extractions
  • In cases of gingivitis or periodontitis
  • As a topical gel to improve gum health and tissue regeneration
5. What are the benefits of using HA in the oral cavity?
  • Enhanced wound healing: Promotes tissue repair by supporting fibroblast migration and collagen formation.
  • Anti-inflammatory effect: Reduces swelling and discomfort after dental procedures.
  • Improved tissue hydration: Maintains a moist environment that supports healing.
  • Antibacterial barrier: Forms a protective film that can reduce bacterial adherence.
  • Gingival regeneration: Encourages recovery of gingival tissue after periodontal therapy.
6. What is the advantage of a HA and Poloxymer gel combination in veterinary dentistry?
  • High bioadhesion which means it will adhere to and stay in the location better
  • The formulation stays longer on the mucosal surface instead of dripping or being washed away quickly.
  • Contact time with epithelial cells is extended → more absorption opportunity.
  • Controlled and prolonged release, often improving local and sometimes systemic bioavailability.
  • Improved uptake without damaging mucosa
7. Which animals benefit from OralVive™?

OralVive™ is formulated primarily for dogs and cats, though it may also be considered for other small mammals and exotic species under veterinary discretion.

8. When is OralVive™ indicated?

OralVive™ is indicated as an adjunctive therapy for:

  • Post-scaling, polishing, or periodontal procedures
  • Gingivitis and periodontitis management
  • Post-extraction or oral surgery care
  • Ulcerative or traumatic lesions of the oral mucosa
  • Maintenance of oral tissue health in predisposed patients (e.g., brachycephalic breeds, geriatric animals)
9. How does OralVive™ work?

When applied to the gums or oral tissue, OralVive™ forms a protective gel that:

  • Hydrates and conditions the mucosa
  • Supports natural wound healing and tissue regeneration
  • Reduces inflammation and discomfort
  • Creates a barrier that helps limit bacterial adhesion
10. How is OralVive™ administered?

OralVive™ is applied using a 3ml luer lock syringe and tip topically as a gel directly to the gums and oral mucosa or applied subgingivally and into periodontal pockets and alveolar sockets.

11. Safety and tolerability

OralVive™ contains biocompatible, non-animal-derived hyaluronic acid and Poloxymer gel. It is non-cytotoxic, non-sensitizing, and safe for mucosal application. Adverse reactions are rare and typically limited to local irritation in the presence of severe infection or contamination.

12. Can HA replace professional dental cleaning?

No. HA is a supportive therapy — not a substitute for mechanical plaque removal or professional dental cleaning. It enhances outcomes but must be combined with regular dental care and home hygiene practices.

13. Are there any contraindications?

HA should not be applied to heavily infected, necrotic, or contaminated wounds without proper cleaning. Use caution with products containing additives or preservatives that are not approved for veterinary oral use.
